The Walt Disney Company has released the first images of Andrew Stanton’s John Carter that will be released on March 9, 2012. I first wrote about this film last January, It has definatley been worth the wait. Click on the image above or text below to see it.

John Carter Teaser Trailer

There is a terrific teaser trailer available and several images that can be used as backgrounds on your desktop. There is even a cameo for Edgar Rice Burroughs in the trailer. I have been a big fan of these books having started reading them about the time the Beatles first came to America.

The big question is will there be more to come at San Diego Comic Con?

The most anticipated film at the Los Angeles Film Festival is Drive which is a metaphor for LA.  Fresh from its win at this year’s Cannes Film Festival where Nicholas Winding Refn won the Best director award. The director and stars were announced and then we are brought into the world of Echo Park, where neighbors share glances, and in the silence as Nic said, there is a greater sound.

Drive is set against the backdrop of East Los Angeles with broad shots of the city lights, including even the parking lot where the festival is held. It is filled with shots of the downtown, the highways and neighborhood streets and even parts of the Valley. Refn truly captured Los Angeles. Drive which he shot here last year was one of several films show at the festival that were shot and featured Los Angeles.  It was surreal to watch the film in this new state of the art Regal Premiere theatre where image and the sound system could magnificently recreate the rhythms of LA.   (more…)

Farewell-Lady Drummond Hay on the first Zeppelin flight around the world

// July 5th, 2010 // Comments Off // Movie Premiere

by Marc Halperin

One of the films I looked forward to watching at the LA Film Festival was Farewell which premiered last November at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam. Ever since I was a child I have had a fascination for these stately airships. Maybe it was the archival footage of the Hindenburg or just the Led Zeppelin album cover?

FAREWELL tells the story of Lady Grace Drummond-Hay, the only female passenger on the first journey around the world of the Graf Zeppelin in 1929. The film was meticulously pieced together over 9 years with archival materials from the extensive newsreel footage shot at the time. There are extraordinary moments captured in this film. The filmmakers have done a marvelous job finding footage that melds the story they have constructed from both fact and fiction into a cohesive  whole. There is plenty of adventure with tension over Russia and  an encounter with a monumental storm.

Transformers 2 thrills audiences, Big Toys Equal Big Box office by Marla Lewin

// June 24th, 2009 // Comments Off // Movie Premiere

Transformers thrills audience with Airplanes, Cars, and Giant Battling Robots.
Tonight was the U.S. Premiere of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as part of the Los Angeles Film Festival. Shia La Beouf attended the premiere in Westwood, with his mother, Shayna.  It was a star studded event with the entire cast in attendance including Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro. Some celebrities with films in the festival who didn’t attend their own premieres showed up for this major event, including one of Shia’s mentors Jon Voight.
Sam Witwicky’s (Shia LaBeouf) parents in the film provide the humor as well as the pathos.  His character Sam, is headed to college, and his girlfriend played by Megan Fox is considering breaking up with him since he is leaving town.  He asks her to join him, and she realizes they have been through a lot in their past, and she cannot give him up.
They are once again off on  a journey to assist the good robots, discover ancient symbols, and save the world. Michael Bay uses an enormous palette to tell his story. Action is set against large cities and even the pyramids. The cast and crew shot in Egypt, Jordan, New Mexico, San Diego, Paris and on the Playa Vista set.
Children of all ages will want to see the film at least twice to absorb all the special effects and transforming trucks, cars, planes, and other eye candy.
The film is already number one internationally and looks to be the film of the summer.
