The Academy has announced today that William Ross will return to conduct the Oscar orchestra. Ross previously conducted at the 79th ceremony.
Academy Award winner Dame Helen Mirren will be on hand as a presenter. She has been nominated 4 times, twice for Best Actress and twice for best supporting actress. Mirren was nominated last year for her leading performance in “The Last Station” and she was nominated for supporting performances in 1994 for “The Madness of King George” and “Gosford Park” in 2001. She won the Oscar in 2006 for her lead role in “The Queen.”
Cate Blanchett will be a presenter at the 83rd Academy Awards ceremony, a five-time Academy Award nominee. Cate took home the Supporting Actress Oscar® in 2004 for her performance as Katharine Hepburn in “The Aviator.” She also received supporting actress nominations for “Notes on a Scandal” and “I’m Not There” in 2006 and 2007, respectively. Blanchett received lead actress nominations for her performances as Queen Elizabeth I in “Elizabeth” (1998) and “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” (2007).
Meet the Oscars in New York City is an exhibition of Oscar statuettes starting today February 23. The Academy invites the public to see the actual Oscar statuettes that will be presented to this year’s Best Actor and Best Actress at the 83rd Academy Awards®. Also on display are Billy Wilder’s Best Picture Oscar for “The Apartment” (1960) and a series of Oscar statuettes in various stages of completion to show how they are made.
The exhibit is free of charge and all visitors will be able to have their own Oscar moment and hold an actual Oscar statuette and have their picture taken. The exhibition is Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Thursday – Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal, 82 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017 (Vanderbilt Hall Entrance: 42nd and Park).

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled a new iApp today that will broadcast real-time Oscar results. This means that anyone can update and snark the results to their friends and the world. In addition the App will provide quick access to trailers for the 10 Best Picture nominees and provide news to users after the Awards show by listing Academy events all year long including tributes, screenings and exhibitions from its extensive collection. You can download it at iTunes. The Academy Awards are on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 5 p.m. P.S.T./8 p.m. E.S.T.

The Hedgehog (Le Hérisson), the story of a family and their private world told from the view point of the younest daughter, written and directed by Mona Achache, stole the hearts of the audiences and won the COL•COA Audience Award from the 28 features that were competing. The week-long festival set an attendance record of 14,957 at the Directors Guild of America. The Critics Special Prize went to Rapt, written and directed by Lucas Belvaux.
Other favorite films with audiences were Heartbreaker, (L’Arnacoeur), Farewell(L’affaire Farewell) and Silent Voices (Qu’un seul tienne et les autres suivront).

The festival hosted over 7,000 attendees at ArcLight Hollywood, and had numerous sold out screenings.
IFFLA Executive Director Christina Marouda said, “This year’s festival has been a great opportunity to celebrate the work of known Indian filmmakers and introduce a new generation of talents as they enter a global filmmaking community”.
